My Iris I have been growing Iris for over 30 years and remember some of the older Iris that my mother grew when I was a child. As the years have passed the color range, bloom size, bloom number and plant vigor have increased. The latest development is the cultural range of the reblooming iris. The American Iris Society which is the official
organization for the registration of new iris hybirds also has helpful
information on growing and other matters concerning iris. The writer of that
document however, recommends adding bone meal to the soil. Our recommendation
for New Mexico growers is that instead of bone meal which is very alkaline,
growers should use a phosphate fertilizer. Either phosphate rock or double or
triple superphosphate is the preferred additive. There are many other types of iris besides the tall bearded and some of the
