ALBUQUERQUE ROSE SOCIETY
IN AFFILIATION WITH THE AMERICAN ROSE
SOCIETY
Presents Its
18th ANNUAL FALL
ROSE SHOW
September 24, 2005
DIVISION 1 HORTICULTURE
The Horticultural Division of the Fall Rose Show is
presented to highlight cultivation of Roses and Rose Foliage. Roses of the same
type are placed on the show table in alphabetical order. Roses of the same
variety are placed together. Ribbons are awarded to each variety as the Judges
see fit. Exhibitors may make as many entries in a class or subclass as desired
so long as varieties are not duplicated.
RULES FOR HORTICULTURAL EXHIBITORS
- The
Rose Show shall be governed and judged by the rules, regulations and
guidelines of the American Rose Society, as set forth in the Guidelines for
Judging Roses. The decision of the Judges is final.
-
Exhibitors may enter through Gate 4, park and enter the Flower Building from
the rear (south) entrance to unload their entries. After unloading, vehicles
must immediately be moved to the parking lot. After 10:00 a.m. exhibitors
must pay a parking fee. Help with unloading is available, if necessary.
- An
exhibitor need not be a member of any rose society.
- All
blooms in this show shall have been grown in the exhibitors outdoor, private
garden. Only one entry of the same variety shall be allowed from the same
garden in any one class unless otherwise stated. More than one entry of the
same variety from the same garden in the same class shall automatically
disqualify all of those entries.
- ARS
entry tags shall be furnished by the Show Committee and must be filled out
completely. Separate entry tags identifying each cultivar are required for
multiple container entries. Questions regarding the appropriate classes
should be directed to the Horticultural Classification chairperson.
Containers shall be furnished by the Show Committee, except where otherwise
specified. Rose Bowls are available on a first-come, first serve basis. All
collections shall be exhibited in the proper containers, as specified under
the class number.
- This
is an alphabetical show. Each specimen shall be entered alphabetically
according to the first name of the variety. Varieties having climbing as
part of their class name shall be entered in their respective bush-type
class. Only one entry, climbing or bush, is allowed for each variety or
cultivar class per exhibitor. Only one entry shall be permitted in each
variety or cultivar class.
- Each
type of collection specified in this schedule that includes different
varieties shall constitute a separate and distinct subclass. So long as the
varieties included in mixed collections are not identical, an exhibitor may
enter as many mixed collections as desired.
-
Wedges of clear plastic and/or Styrofoam may be used to position specimens in
a container so long as none of the material extends above the edges of the
container. Use of unauthorized material shall result in disqualification.
Aluminum foil may not be used as a wedge.
-
Classification of roses shall be in accordance with the latest editions of;
Modern Roses, Handbook for Selecting Roses, Combined Rose List or the New Rose
Registrations in the American Rose. All roses shall be exhibited under their
ARS Exhibition Names, as listed in bold type in the ARS Handbook for Selecting
Roses. A rose variety need not be registered with the ARS to be exhibited in
this show, but must be listed in an ARS-recognized publication.
-
During placement, only the Placement/Classification Committees shall be
permitted in the show area, except for Arrangement exhibitors, who shall be
permitted to place their own entries. Each such exhibitor shall be
accompanied by a member of the Placement Committee and must leave the show
area as soon as the exhibit is placed.
-
Horticultural Judges who are judging in this show may enter only Section G,
the Judges Classes 33-36.
-
First, Second, Third and Honorable Mention ribbons shall be awarded in classes
on the basis of quality in the opinion of the Judges. Only First place (Blue)
ribbon winners are eligible for higher awards. No award is required for any
entry or class.
-
Exhibits, prizes and awards shall remain intact until the close of the show.
All specimen entries shall become the property of the Show Committee and may
not be removed without permission from the Show Chairperson. The Show
Committee reserves the right to remove any entry that has become wilted or
otherwise unsightly.
-
While the Albuquerque Rose Society shall take every precaution to safeguard
containers and materials furnished by exhibitors, it cannot be held
responsible in case of loss or damage. Containers, awards, ribbons and other
property shall be claimed following the Awards Ceremony.
- The
preparation room in the Flower Building shall be open at 7:00 a.m., Saturday,
September 24, 2005. Entries shall be accepted from 7:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m.
on that day. No entries shall be accepted after 10:00 a.m.
-
Awards shall be presented on Sunday, September 25, 2005 at 6:30 p.m. ARS
Certificates shall be presented at the next regular meeting of the Albuquerque
Rose Society (second Wednesday in October).
